The Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, has pledged his administration’s support for student welfare initiatives while declaring a firm commitment to tackling drug and substance abuse among young people.

Oyedokun made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D, led by the Chief of Staff to the Coordinator, Comrade Adebiyi Caleb Adeyemi (BILLIONSMILE).

The meeting, held on Friday, September 18, 2026, focused on issues affecting students and youths, including education, community development, youth empowerment and social challenges confronting young Nigerians.

During the engagement, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy expressed concern over the increasing challenge of drug and substance abuse among young people and emphasised the need for collective action from government, communities, student leaders and other stakeholders.

The chairman said his administration was committed to supporting awareness campaigns, community engagement and initiatives aimed at protecting youths from the dangers associated with substance abuse.

He also urged student leaders to use their positions responsibly and serve as positive influences within their institutions and communities.

A major part of the discussion centred on student welfare and the financial difficulties many students face during their academic journey.

The NANS Southwest delegation introduced the BILLIONSMILE CAMPUS RELIEF (BCR 2.0) initiative, an annual welfare intervention programme championed by the Office of the Chief of Staff to the NANS Southwest Coordinator.

The initiative is designed to support students facing financial challenges through assistance with educational materials, financial support and other academic needs, particularly during examination periods when many students experience increased pressure.

Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy pledged his support towards the forthcoming BILLIONSMILE CAMPUS RELIEF 2.0 edition, strengthening the partnership between the local government and student leadership on issues affecting students.

The chairman also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development, education empowerment and collaboration with student organisations and other stakeholders.

Responding on behalf of the NANS Southwest leadership, Comrade Adebiyi Caleb Adeyemi (BILLIONSMILE) thanked the chairman for his support and willingness to collaborate on initiatives aimed at improving student welfare.

Adeyemi also conveyed the appreciation of the Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), and the entire leadership of the organisation.

The NANS Southwest leadership described the engagement as a step towards strengthening relationships between student leaders and grassroots institutions of government.

The partnership around BILLIONSMILE CAMPUS RELIEF 2.0 is expected to support efforts aimed at reducing financial barriers faced by students and promoting better educational opportunities.
