The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised an alarm over alleged plans to arrest the National Secretary of the party, Rauf Aregbesola, ahead of the upcoming Osun State election.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

Abdullahi stated that the party could not dismiss the reports, pointing to what he described as a pattern of intimidation, harassment, and the misuse of state institutions by the current administration against the opposition. He noted that if any security agency had a lawful reason to invite the ADC chieftain, established procedures should be followed.

Aregbesola is a former governor of Osun State and a former minister of interior.

According to the statement, the party received credible intelligence regarding the purported arrest plot scheduled for the days leading up to Saturday's election.

“An arrest on the eve of an election in which his party is participating would invite only one reasonable conclusion; that the purpose is to prevent him from leading and coordinating the party’s election activities,” the statement read.

The ADC placed the federal government and security agencies on notice, warning that public scrutiny remains high regarding the electoral process in Osun State. The party urged the APC-led federal government to avoid actions that could trigger unnecessary unrest in the state, emphasizing that Nigeria remains a democracy.
