Tension erupt in Bolorunduro, Ilesa, following reports of sporadic gunshots in the area amid growing political tension ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

The development has raised concerns among residents and students, with reports that a student was accidentally hit by a gunshot during the unrest. According to a message circulated by the student leadership, the student is alive and receiving attention, with an appeal for members of the community to remember the victim in their prayers.

The Student Union President of Osun State College of Health Technology Ilesa, Sen. Badiru Rohees Olawale, while addressing students, announced that the institution’s examinations would be postponed indefinitely until the prevailing political tensions are resolved.

“Your exams are postponed indefinitely, until the political tensions are resolved. Stay safe and may peace be restored soonest,” the student leader said.

The President added that an official memorandum on the postponement would be issued shortly, urging students to prioritise their safety as the situation develops.

The reported incident comes amid a broader escalation of political violence in Ilesa and other parts of Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Recent reports have documented shootings during political activities in Ilesa, including an incident in which several people were injured.

A report published Last Tuesday also said tension returned to Ilesa after suspected political thugs allegedly attacked APC supporters, with fatalities reported. The tension continued yesterday when three members of the Accord Party where reported killed yesterday.

As of the time of this report, there is no independent official confirmation establishing the exact source of the sporadic gunshots reported in Bolorunduro.
