Two persons were reportedly killed on Friday afternoon following a violent clash in the Owode-Ilesa area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, reportedly triggered panic among residents, traders and other people within the area as violence erupted.

According to reports gathered from the area, the clash was allegedly between rival cult groups, although the immediate cause of the confrontation had not been established as of the time of filing this report.

The identities of the deceased persons were yet to be officially confirmed.

The incident reportedly caused fear among residents and traders operating around the Owode-Ilesa axis, with people said to have hurried away from the area during the violence.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths, including the nature of weapons allegedly used and whether other persons sustained injuries, were also unclear at press time.

The latest incident comes amid previous reports of cult-related and other violent clashes in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State. In July, the Osun State Police Command confirmed two deaths in separate violent incidents in the Egbatedo and Owode-Igbona areas of Osogbo, with arrests made in connection with one of the incidents.

Authorities had at the time urged residents to remain calm while security agencies investigated the incidents and worked to apprehend those responsible.

As of Friday evening, further details concerning the latest Owode-Ilesa incident, including an official statement from the police, were not immediately available.

More details will be reported as they emerge.
