Nigeria’s Falconets will face England’s Young Lionesses on Thursday in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

The knockout match will be played at the Stadion Miejski in Bielsko-Biała, Poland, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00pm Nigerian time, equivalent to 3:00pm in Poland.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that Moses Aduku’s side will meet England after progressing from Group F, where the Falconets accumulated four points from three matches.

Nigeria began their World Cup campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Spain, followed by a goalless draw with China PR.

Their qualification hopes then came down to the final group match against New Caledonia, and the Falconets responded emphatically with a 10-1 victory, their biggest winning margin at the tournament.

Winner Onajite David scored a hat-trick in that victory, while Ramotalahi Kareem, Rebecca Adegbemile and other Nigerian attackers contributed as the Falconets overwhelmed New Caledonia, particularly in the second half.

England also collected four points during the group stage. The Young Lionesses drew 1-1 with Canada, defeated Tanzania 5-1 and then lost 2-1 to Brazil before progressing to the knockout phase.

What time is Nigeria vs England?

The England vs Nigeria Round of 16 match kicks off at:

Nigeria: 2:00pm WAT

Poland: 3:00pm local time

The match takes place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Stadion Miejski Bielsko-Biała.

What is at stake?

There is no second chance at this stage.

The winner advances directly to the quarter-finals, while the losing team will be eliminated from the World Cup.

According to the NFF, the winner of England versus Nigeria will meet either hosts Poland or Colombia in the last eight.

For Nigeria, victory would extend the Falconets’ pursuit of a first FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title.

Nigeria are among the most successful countries never to have won the competition, having finished as runners-up in 2010 and 2014. FIFA also lists those two editions as Nigeria’s best performances at the tournament.

How Nigeria reached the Round of 16

The Falconets’ route to Thursday’s game was far from straightforward.

They failed to score in their opening two matches against Spain and China PR, leaving qualification dependent on a strong final performance.

The 10-1 victory over New Caledonia transformed their position, sending Nigeria through with four points and giving Aduku’s side significant attacking momentum before the knockout stage.

England present a different test.

The Young Lionesses demonstrated their attacking quality by scoring five times against Tanzania, although their defeat to Brazil showed they can also be put under pressure.

How to watch Nigeria vs England

FIFA says matches from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup are available through FIFA+ via DAZN in selected territories, although broadcast availability varies by country. Nigerian viewers should therefore confirm the match listing on FIFA+ or DAZN before kick-off.

FIFA’s official tournament platform also provides fixtures, results and tournament updates.

Nigeria’s World Cup history

The Falconets have been a consistent presence at this level.

Nigeria are the only African country to have qualified for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the competition began, according to the NFF.

They reached the final in 2010 and 2014, losing to Germany on both occasions, and also reached the semi-finals in 2012.

Thursday’s match gives the current generation another chance to extend that record and move within three victories of the final.
