Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has initiated plans for a statewide security and surveillance system involving drones, artificial intelligence-powered cameras and other advanced technologies to strengthen public safety across the state.
The initiative, being developed in partnership with Chinese technology firm Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited, is designed to provide round-the-clock security monitoring of communities, public institutions, businesses and major transport routes.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the governor's spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, following a meeting between Adeleke and representatives of the Chinese company.
According to the statement, the governor met with the company's executives on Monday to discuss and finalise details of the proposed security project.
The delegation was led by the company's Director of International Operations, Cai Jianfei, and its Manager of Overseas Operations, Nemo Guo.
The proposed system will incorporate drones, radar technology, artificial intelligence-enabled cameras, robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) devices to gather security intelligence and monitor activities across Osun State.
The government explained that information obtained through the surveillance infrastructure would be coordinated through a central Command and Control Centre, allowing security officials to monitor developments and respond to potential threats.
The project will also include a school safety component and a decentralised mobile application designed to connect residents directly with the command centre.
According to the government, the surveillance network will cover schools, banks, industrial facilities, farms, mining sites, commercial centres, motor parks and major roads across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Adeleke said the initiative formed part of his administration's efforts to strengthen security through modern technology and improve the protection of residents and businesses.
“Our plan is to create an inclusive security platform that will fully secure and protect our people. From schools, hospitals, businesses and border communities, this initiative is a strategic option,” the governor said.
Adeleke also referenced the establishment of the Osun State Security Trust Fund, describing the proposed surveillance project as another step towards strengthening the state's security architecture.
The leader of the Chinese delegation, Cai Jianfei, said the proposed system would integrate different security technologies to support the protection of people and businesses across Osun.
Jianfei also invited the governor to undertake a working visit to China as discussions on the initiative continue.
Although the government has outlined the scope of the project, the estimated cost, implementation timetable and funding arrangements have not been publicly disclosed.
The announcement comes as the state government seeks to expand security coverage through technology, particularly in schools, commercial areas and communities considered vulnerable to security threats.
