The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated ₦65.66 billion between January and August 2026, while also intercepting police insignia, a firearm, detonating cords, cannabis and other prohibited goods during its anti-smuggling operations.

Acting Customs Area Controller Wale Moses Adewole disclosed the figures during a press briefing at the command's operational headquarters in Ibadan.

According to the command, revenue rose from approximately ₦57.66 billion during the corresponding period of 2025 to ₦65.66 billion this year, representing an increase of 13.88 per cent.

Adewole attributed the increase to improved revenue collection, trade facilitation, stakeholder engagement and measures aimed at strengthening compliance.

The command also recorded seizures with a cumulative Duty Paid Value of about ₦4.11 billion.

Among the intercepted items were 573 Nigeria Police Force crests, 92 yards of police camouflage uniform material, one pistol, six pistol magazines, a pump-action magazine and 60 detonating cords.

Customs said the movement of police uniforms and insignia outside authorised channels posed security concerns because such materials could potentially be used for impersonation or unauthorised access.

Other seizures included 2,012 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 550 bags of 25kg foreign parboiled rice, 2,440 wraps of cannabis sativa, 1,150 used tyres and 48 packs of 225mg tramadol.

The command also intercepted used clothing and shoes, foreign vegetable oil, sugar, vehicles, containers of mercury and about 5,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit.

Adewole said the interceptions were made as part of the command's responsibility to prevent smuggling while protecting the economy and national security.

The relevant seized items have been handed over to agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency for further action.

The command said it would continue intelligence-driven enforcement while facilitating legitimate trade across Oyo and Osun states.
