Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is ready to reconcile with the current Kano State Governor, H.E Abba Kabir Yusuf, despite their political differences.

Kwankwaso made the statement during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, where he spoke about his relationship with Governor Yusuf and the events that led to their disagreement.

Yusuf was elected governor of Kano State in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with the support of Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.

However, their relationship became strained after Governor Yusuf left the NNPP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking about the disagreement, Kwankwaso said he had not stopped caring about Governor Yusuf. He said he was willing to forgive and reconcile with the governor if Yusuf was also ready to settle their differences.

Kwankwaso also referred to his past disagreement with former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, saying political differences can be resolved through forgiveness and understanding.

Reacting to Kwankwaso’s comments, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the state government was also open to reconciliation.

Waiya described Kwankwaso as a father figure and said the government would welcome any effort to bring both sides together.

He also said Governor Yusuf had previously asked his supporters not to see Kwankwaso as an enemy, describing their disagreement as a difference in political views.

There is, however, no official announcement yet of a reconciliation meeting between Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf.

The latest comments have opened the door for possible dialogue between the two politicians as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue.
