The Independent National Electoral Commission is conducting five legislative by-elections in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states today, Saturday, September 19, 2026, with voting expected to run from 8:30am to 2:30pm in affected polling units.
The elections are being held to fill one House of Representatives seat and four state House of Assembly seats.
The affected constituencies are:
- Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Gombe State
- Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, Kano State
- Disina State Constituency, Bauchi State
- Sakwa State Constituency, Bauchi State
- Udu State Constituency, Delta State
INEC's official election calendar confirms all five contests for September 19.
Voting is limited to registered voters in the affected constituencies. These are not statewide elections across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi or Delta.
Polls are expected to open at 8:30am, while voters already in the queue by 2:30pm should be allowed to complete the voting process in accordance with INEC procedures.
In Gombe, Verita Post previously reported that INEC had distributed sensitive materials for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye poll, where more than 495,000 registered voters are expected across the three local government areas.
The constituency seat became vacant following the death of its former representative.
The other four seats also became vacant under different circumstances, including death, resignation and movement by former occupants to contest other positions.
Security arrangements and movement restrictions have also been announced in some affected areas ahead of voting.
Attention will move from voting to collation once polls close.
Results circulating on social media should not be treated as final until formally declared by the authorised INEC returning officer.
